Artist's Statement Previous Blog
To me, art is not merely a hobby or a passage of time; art is a passion. I live to create things that speak to me as an artist, as well as to those who view my work. The best version of myself as an artist is the one who is constantly searching for inspiration and breathing in all that life offers and turning that inspiration into a piece that viewers can live vicariously through. It is very important to me that my pieces have voices that can speak multitudes. Without the emotion put into each brushstroke, the piece becomes lifeless and without a story. I find most of my inspiration in daily life, as I try to search for the beauty even in the rainiest of days. The people I surround myself with, the bridges I must cross, the memories I have made, and the simple blessings in my life are large contributors to the inner meanings of my work.
I do not seek to please others through my work as I know, and have experienced, critics. I strive to fulfill a greater purpose that cannot be changed by others’ opinions. What other artists or onlookers think of my work does not affect how I create. I do, however, wish to translate encouraging messages through my pieces that I hope inspire others to be creative and to express themselves as well. I tend to use bright colors and bold textures in my paintings and mixed media pieces that make people light up with happiness upon viewing. If I can make one person smile through something I created and I am inspired by it myself, I consider a piece successful. Most of my pieces do not raise questions as to the meanings behind them, as I created them with the purpose of interpretation. The layers I place in my pieces with various papers and paints create multiple meanings that I desire for my viewers to create their own of. The layers each hold a personal story or memory for myself, and I want others to experience that as well. I am blessed to be able to pursue my passion of art in such a way that can bring joy and inspiration to others. I seek to accomplish this as well as translate my story with each piece I complete. |
